“The Boy and the Heron” has just won an Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature! Tmade anime history with both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe win. The newest Studio Ghibli produIt is the first anime in history to win both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. It is also the first production of this status in the Young Horizons’ movies catalog.
The genre master Hayao Miyazaki returns after ten years in big style with a new, visionary animation – “The Boy and the Heron.” The film has been hailed a masterpiece in Japan and has garnered acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. Aside from the Academy Award, “The Boy and the Heron” was also awarded a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. In Poland, where it was distributed by Young Horizons, the film hit cinemas on January 19th and since then, it has been watched by over a hundred thousand viewers. It is the first anime to be played in IMAX in Poland.
“The Boy and the Heron” is a visionary tale not only about loss and death but it is also a display of an unfettered imagination. After losing his mother, Mahito leaves Tokyo with his father and moves to the countryside. Not happy with his new reality, he begins to explore his house and the surrounding area. One day, he meets a strange talking heron that becomes his guide. The bird starts to help Mahito uncover the mystery of life by taking him to a world, where the past blends with the present.
